On Shabbos, someone publicly humiliated me in shul. Today, two people came up to me and said that the Tzibbur is with me.
The way I look at it is that the Mishna [Avos 3-11] says that if one embarrasses his fellow in public he loses his portion in the world to come. The Gemara [Bava Metzia 58b] says that he goes to Gehenom and doesn't leave. The person being embarrassed merits great blessing [See Shabbos 88b].
This person was willing to lose his portion in the world to come and go to Gehenom with no release date - ALL to give me a HUUUUGE zchus??!! Plus, everyone is coming to my defense and showing moral support!
