On social media one often hears people asking-pleading "Please subscribe to my you tube channel and follow me on twitter, spotify, instagram etc. etc."
I would like to go public with this. I don't want ANYONE to follow me!!! What a PATHETIC life when people - even complete strangers - are "following" you. It is like people can only feel good about themselves when others are paying attention to them. It is like a BEAUTIFUL storefront window that features gold silver and diamonds but when you go into the store it is EMPTY!! People are trying to show themselves to the world but this effort itself is an often an indication of how much they are lacking INSIDE. If one is internally fulfilled he doesn't need and is not interested in the world's attention. How fascinating it is that so many people yearned to be famous and then when it happened they couldn't take and had to turn to drugs, alcohol or other destructive behaviors in order to cope.
We Jews believe in the concept of Tzniyus. How did Michah HaNavi put it?:
Walk humbly with Hashem!!! That means that you should guard your privacy and serve without others observing you.
So of course I am not bashful about linking shiurim but they are not about me but the Torah. If I had a billion dollars it would be AWESOME to let people know so that I could give it out and people could benefit, so I also want people to benefit from the Torah. When it comes to Torah then it must be spread around and not hidden. As we are taught in Mishlei [1-20/21]:
| חָכְמוֹת בַּח֣וּץ תָּרֹ֑נָּה בָּ֜רְחֹב֗וֹת תִּתֵּ֥ן קוֹלָֽהּ: בְּרֹ֥אשׁ הֹמִיּ֗וֹת תִּ֫קְרָ֥א בְּפִתְחֵ֖י שְׁעָרִ֥ים בָּעִ֗יר אֲמָרֶ֥יהָ תֹאמֵֽר: |
Wisdoms shout in the street; in the squares she gives forth her voice.
She calls at the head of the noisy streets; she utters her words at the entrances of the gates in the city.
