When someone dies and he is made out to be the Gadol Ha-dor when he really isn't - it trivializes real Gedolei Ha-dor.
When someone dies and is made out to be a great Talmid Chochom when he really isn't - it trivializes real Talmidei Chachomim.
When someone dies and is made out to be a Tzadik when he really isn't - it trivializes true Tzadikim.
And so on and so forth.
I am in favor of COPIOUSLY praising and finding kind things to say about people, both before and after death, but we have to be careful in what we say.
