There are 3 basic metals used in the Mishkan. Gold, silver and copper. Gold - for beauty. Silver - for practical use. Copper - for preparation. Thus, it is fitting that copper be used for the laver which was a preparation for the Avodah. This preparation is the basis of Kedusha in a permanent way and not just by happenstance. So it is fitting that the כיור is connected to the base. ועשית כיור נחשת וכנו נחשת לרחצה.
ועשית כיור נחשת, וכנו נחשת לרחצה. המתכות שנשתמשו בהן במשכן, היו אלה השלש ביחוד: הזהב, הכסף והנחשת.לפי מדת חשיבותן צריכות הן להערך: לשם הדור, לשם מפעל, ולשם הכנה. הזהב להדור, הכסף למפעל, הנחשת להכנה. פעולת הכיור, שהיא באה לקדוש של הכנה, צריכה וראויה בשביל כך להתיחש להנחשת. ולהורות, שהכנת טהרה זו היא קבועה, לא מקרית, לא רק משמשת לשעתה כי אם מכרעת את התכן של החיים בקביעות, למושג המתאים לטהרה הקדושה הזאת להוראת הבסיסות והקביעות, בא הכן מצורף אל הכיור. ועשית כיור נחשת וכנו נחשת לרחצה.
