I know a Rav with a large family. He has many expenses. People are always giving him money - which he passes on to others. He is not an ascetic. He eats and lives like a normal human being.
But here is the thing: HE HAS NO BANK ACCOUNT!!!! No investments, no savings, no checking account, no checks. He just lives like that day to day. And apparently, he has been doing this for years - maybe his whole life!!!
Is it possible for a person to SOOOOOO not be מחשיב [assign importance] to money that he doesn't have a bank account? A person who could take a LOT of money for himself since so much goes through his hands?!
WOW!! THAT - is a person who LIVES the fact that this world is a waiting room for the next world. Who needs a bank account in a waiting room.
This story won't make it to the papers. They are interested primarily in Rabbis who steal money and commit other crimes. But let us not forget about the Tzadikim who are so holy and pure.
