The Place Of Leitzanus

There is no such thing as an inherently "bad" middah. "Middah" means amount. It is all about how much and in what context. But there is room for all middos, both those we term "good" and those we term "bad". Even the good middos can be misused.

Leitzanus ["mockery" "scoffing"] is usually not positive but also has it's place. Leitzanus means to belittle something. The gemara says that Leitzanus is positive when relating to Avoda Zara. Modern Avoda Zara includes politics. Politicians make promises they themselves know that they can't necessarily keep. They present themselves as all-powerful and their followers [i.e. we] buy it.

One doesn't have to make Leitzanus from Trump. Every time he opens up his mouth [בבחינת ויפתח ה' את פי האתון] he makes a mockery of himself [if you understand the psychological mechanisms behind what he is really saying]. Biden also was a cheftza of Leitzanus. So is Kamala. These are extremely pathetic human beings who have been catapulted to power by a pitiful society who can do no better then them. It is more a reflection on our culture than on them.

We vote b/c we have to put the best available person in office. But they are generally power hungry people who sacrifice their menuchas hanefesh [that they don't enjoy for 5 minutes] in exchange for קנאה תאוה כבוד and other מרעין בישין.

The Knesset is a place of Leitzanus. The level of conversation and behavior of the clowns [not all but many] who are called "Knesset Members" is worthy of kindergarten [for special needs children...]. Simply pathetic. An embarrassment. Who is B.N. in Halacha? A מחלל שבת בפרהסיא אוכל נו"ט בועל נדה. That's all. Nothing to write home about. On the contrary. We are just happier it is him than the alternative.

Politicians aren't all bad. They do a great deal of good as well [at least some of them do]. But ultimately they are modern day Avoda Zaras and we shouldn't get swept up into all of the nonsense the entire society is drowning in.
