Republicans’ faith in science is falling as Democrats rely on it even more, with a trust gap in science and medicine widening substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic, new survey data shows.
It’s the largest gap in nearly five decades of polling by the General Social Survey, a widely respected trend survey conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago that has been measuring confidence in institutions since 1972.
Overall, 48% of Americans say they have “a great deal” of confidence in the scientific community, the 2021 General Social Survey data shows. Sixty-four percent of Democrats say that, compared with roughly half as many Republicans, 34%. The gap was much smaller in 2018, when 51% of Democrats and 42% of Republicans had high confidence.

Nobody loses faith in science. Science is a given, a reality. It is the SCIENTISTS who are suspect. Some intentionally present certain data but hide other data, others distort or falsify information while for most scientists the issue is that they are limited. There is just so much that science cannot fully explain and so many problems that mere scientific knowledge cannot solve. That is why there are so many people with cancer. After all is said and done, after billions and billions of dollars worth of research, every day more people are diagnosed and others die of this "bitere machala". Billions have been poured into Corona research and after two years when the WHOLE WORLD has been trying to figure this thing out we are still deep deep in this mess.
A מאמין has THE answer. Hashem runs the world. Humans, with all of our brilliance and resourcefulness, are very limited. The non-believers desperately need something to latch on to in order to give themselves security, so they maintain their belief in scientists despite their woeful inadequacies. Yes, scientists have discovered INCREDIBLE things in the last few decades but only a fool puts his full faith in them.
