Rethinking A Eulogy Line

I often hear maspidim saying that the niftar/nifteres was so special that Hashem wanted him/her closer to Him, so He took them.

It is important to make clear that Hashem doesn't get lonely and manages just fine no matter where people are. Anything we say about Hashem's "feelings" or "desires" is His way of relating to us as we can understand but say nothing about Him who is "לית מחשבא תפיסא ביה כלל" - inscrutable, incomprehensible and unfathomable. [As we spoke about in a recent Moreh Nevuchim shiur].

Also, Hashem is everywhere. As far as Hashem is concerned - wherever the person is, he is just as close to Hashem as he is anywhere else. Hashem doesn't sit on a perch in the sky a trillion miles high. Hashem is everywhere equally. We humans feel Him more in Shomayim - but for Him our location doesn't matter. So He doesn't have to take anyone to get closer to that person.

It also seems to me that although this is a great praise of the niftar - it makes Hashem look bad. It sounds as if for His selfish purposes he took this person. The person's close friends and family go into deep, inconsolable grief, everyone at the levayah is wailing bitter tears - so that Hashem can "feel" better and have this person close to Him.

We don't believe in a selfish and insensitive G-d.
