חייתני מיורדי בור. השקיעה בשאול, אע"פ שהיא עמוקה, מ"מ יסוד החיים עדיין לא ניטל בה מהאוצר הנפשי החיותי. המשאל בעצמו, אע"פ שחסרים לו כל תקיפיו של מילוי המשאל, אע"פ שהוא מצב אומלל ונורא מאד, כולו אומר בהלות, פחדים, עצבונות ומכאובי נשמה, בכ"ז זיק של חיים יש כאן. אבל הירידה להבור זוהי כבר שיקוע של נטילת יסוד החיים, אטימת הצנור של השאיפה של הרצון הפנימי, של השאיפה לחיות ולמלאות תפקידי חיים ומציאות, כשדה בור, אשר אין בה אפילו הכנה להוראה של זריעה, המביאה לידי צמיחה, וכהוראת הבורות, התכונתית ביחש להמדע, באין שום הכשר רוחני, אפילו ביחש לערך נפשי, מוכן לשלמות והדרכה, אין בור ירא־חטא, העומד במדרגה פחותה מעם הארץ, שהכנה למודית כבר ישנה בו, אלא שהיא חסרה פתוח. וחסד עליון חודר הוא למעמקים, להחיות גם את הנשקעים במעמק שכחת החיים והאורה החיונית האלהית ביסודה. חייתני מירדי בור.

You kept me alive, that I did not descend to the pit.[What is the difference between שאול and בור?] The descent into Sheol, although deep, still does not completely remove the essence of life from the vital spiritual treasury. The wish itself, even though it lacks all the means of fulfillment, even though it is a miserable and terrible state, full of panic, fear, sadness, and soul pain, nevertheless, a spark of life dwells within it. But descending into the pit is already means a sinking into the removal of the essence of life, sealing the [spiritual] pipeline of the aspiration of the inner will, of the aspiration to live and fulfill life's roles and reality, like a fallow field [שדה בור - referring to the בור in our pasuk], in which there is not even any capacity to plant, which leads to growth, and like the connotation of ignorance [בורות - also related to בור], which is an scholastic term, [referring to a person] without any spiritual preparation for perfection and guidance. There is no sin-fearing ignoramus [אין בור ירא חטא], which stands at a lower level than the Am Ha-aretz, who already have some educational preparation, but lack development. And divine kindness penetrates to the depths, to revive even those who are submerged in the depths of oblivion and [lacking] the basic divine vital light. You kept me alive, that I did not descend to the pit. [Now we have בור with it's various meanings - pit, fallow [field] and ignorance [which includes no fear of sin]. Hashem saved the Psalmist from that].
