מזמור שיר חנוכת הבית לדוד. הרגש הלבבי, המתעמק בעומק הנפש, הצפון בחגוי החיים, שהתפרצותו הבטויית אינה יכולה להתלבש בבטויים, כי אם בתנועות קוליות, מסודרות, שמהן בא הזמר. וכשהוא הולך ומתפשט, הולך ומתגלה, הולך ומתחבר אל המחשבה המיושבת, אוצר הדבור והבטוי בגובה גדלה, מקום אשר השירה שם אצורה, משני אלה התכנים ביחד יבא הענין המורכב של מזמור שיר, הראוי להיות לנו למופת בתור הקדמה לכניסה לבית תפלתנו, היותר עקרית ויסודית, הטעונה השפעה ממעמק הרגש ומחביון המחשבה, בשפיכת נפש והגיון קדש, המורכב משני הפלגים הללו גם יחד. ההכנה, הכשרתו של האידיאל ההולך ומתהוה, הולכת ונמשכת ע"י עבודות תדיריות, הקבועות במקום היותר מוכשר להתעלות היותר מקודשת, היא הקוראה בקרבנו את ההתגברות הנשמתית, המאמצת את אלה שני הזרמים הקדושים בשיא גבהם, חנוכת הבית. התכונה המיוחדת ברוממות קדשה לאישיות העליונה, אשר נועדה להקים ולהכין כסא כבוד, מלא הוד ד', הקים עדי עד, כירח יכון עולם, דוד מלך ישראל חי וקים, – אומר סלה זה מתבטא לנו בכל מלואו במזמור שיר חנוכת הבית, לדוד.
A psalm, a song for the dedication of the house of Dovid. The heartfelt emotion, delving deep into the soul, hidden in the recesses of life, whose expressive outburst cannot be clothed in words, but rather in ordered, vocal movements, from which song [זמר] arises. And as it spreads and reveals itself, and connects with settled thought, the treasure of speech and expression in their great heights, a place where poetry is stored [שיר]. From these two qualities together will come the complex meaning of a "mizmor shir", which is worthy of being an example for us as an introduction to entering our house of prayer, the most essential and fundamental, imbued with influence from the depths of feeling [זמר] and the hidden recesses of thought [שיר], with the outpouring of soul [זמר] and holy reason [שיר], which is composed of both these streams together. The preparation of the ideal that is coming into being continues through constant service [referring to the service in the Beis Hamikdash], fixed in the most suitable place for the most sacred elevation [the Beis Hamikdash], it calls forth within us the spiritual power, which embraces these two holy streams at their peak, the dedication of the house. The special attribute of the exaltation of holiness of the elevated personality [Dovid], who is intended to establish and prepare a throne of glory, full of the splendor of God, that exists forever, like the moon it will stand firm forever, David, King of Israel, lives and endures, – this eternal statement is expressed to us in its entirety in a psalm a song of the dedication of the house, of Dovid.
