Last night I attended a י"ט כסלו farbrengen to celebrate the Alter Rebbe's release from jail. The old commercial used to go "You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's [bread]." Well, you don't have to be Lubavitch to attend a farbrengen on י"ט כסלו and I went.
Anyway - I wanted to point out to the attendees [but didn't...] that the Rebbe was freed from jail, but many of them are still in jail. It is the jail of modern technology. Instead of spending a short period of time being PRESENT, listening to the speaker, singing, eating, drinking and connecting to EACH OTHER, they instead elected to be busy with their phones.
A jail. May we all be released from this prison. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't take advantage of modern technology but that we should control it and not allow it to control us.
