Today is the 35th yahrtzeit of Gary Slochowsky, who died tragically young [he was about 21].
I was not friendly with him. I never even remember speaking to him. [He was about four years older than I was and for kids four years is a large gap]. But I will never forget him.
I was in Camp Lavi [😲😲] with him and remember three things.
1] He was a good looking boy.
2] He was a lefty and great hitter.
3] Much more important. This was before there was camp HASC. There was a special needs boy [back then they weren't called "special needs"] who always seemed to be hanging around Gary. I don't know who this boy was and what the connection was. But I remember that he attached himself to Gary and nobody else. It was very special watching the two of them. I am sad that the sensitive soul that was Gary is no longer here on earth with us. I hope his Neshama has found peace.
