וַיָּ֥זֶד יַעֲקֹ֖ב נָזִ֑יד וַיָּבֹ֥א עֵשָׂ֛ו מִן־הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה וְה֥וּא עָיֵֽף:
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר עֵשָׂ֜ו אֶֽל־יַעֲקֹ֗ב הַלְעִיטֵ֤נִי נָא֙ מִן־הָאָדֹ֤ם הָאָדֹם֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֥י עָיֵ֖ף אָנֹ֑כִי עַל־כֵּ֥ן קָרָֽא־שְׁמ֖וֹ אֱדֽוֹם:
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר עֵשָׂ֔ו הִנֵּ֛ה אָנֹכִ֥י הוֹלֵ֖ךְ לָמ֑וּת וְלָמָּה־זֶּ֥ה לִ֖י בְּכֹרָֽה:
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֗ב הִשָּׁ֤בְעָה לִּי֙ כַּיּ֔וֹם וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע ל֑וֹ וַיִּמְכֹּ֥ר אֶת־בְּכֹרָת֖וֹ לְיַעֲקֹֽב׃
וְיַעֲקֹ֞ב נָתַ֣ן לְעֵשָׂ֗ו לֶ֚חֶם וּנְזִ֣יד עֲדָשִׁ֔ים וַיֹּ֣אכַל וַיֵּ֔שְׁתְּ וַיָּ֖קׇם וַיֵּלַ֑ךְ וַיִּ֥בֶז עֵשָׂ֖ו אֶת־הַבְּכֹרָֽה:
There is a huuuuuge lesson here.
The pasuk says that Esav is tired.
Esav himself says he is tired and asks for food b/c he is also hungry.
Tired and hungry.
Bad combo for making a decision that will affect you for eternity.
He is so tired that he feels like he is going to die.
What we call "dead tired". In Modern Hebrew: "עייף מת".
He swears and sells. Gets his meal and just feels disgust. [May I suggest that immediately after eating he was still hungry b/c it takes abt. 20 minutes for the stomach to send the brain the message that you are full. Still hungry. Still tired]. He feels disgusted with himself both physically and spiritually.
So he disgraces the בכורה.
Mussar Haskel - Don't make major decisions when not in the proper emotional state.
Maran HaRav Hutner ztz"l to a Talmid: A Dayan may not judge at night. Some times are no good for judging. So to at this difficult juncture you shouldn't judge yourself. It won't be an objective judgment.
