The precipitous fall of the dollar—dropping lower than at any point in the last thirty years—has been incredibly painful for those living in Israel who rely on foreign income. Caught between rising inflation and a devaluing currency, many are facing a daunting economic challenge.
However, the mussar here is powerful: A person may think they have amassed a fortune, only to glance at the newspaper and realize their wealth has evaporated in a matter of months. Ultimately, money is merely paper that society ascribes value to. Intrinsically, it has no more worth than a common napkin; it is a social construct— what the "wokists" say about gender, the economists understand about money!
The reality is that material wealth is transient. As we are reminded:
סוף דבר הכל נשמע את הא-להים ירא ואת מצותיו שמור כי זה כל האדם.
"The end of the matter, all having been heard: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the sum of man."
When the markets shift and the paper loses its luster, we must remember that spiritual truths are all we truly carry with us into eternity.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Hashem isn't so busy with other things that He hasn't noticed. This is ALL part of His Master Plan.
