From the time you are born, your mother is basically your servant. She feeds you, bathes you, washes your clothing, cleans up after you etc. etc. Her life revolves around .... you. [All for free, by the way. WHATTA DEAL!!!]. Your father is also here to serve you which he does primarily by being responsible to pay for everything.
When one reaches emotional and spiritual maturity [hopefully by the age of 12 or 13], he must make a switch [Modern Hebrew - "סוויטש"!!] in his or her brain. The OPPOSITE is the moral truth. That I am here to be my parent's servant, is closer to the truth. In the formulation of the Gemara [Kiddushin 45b] "לא חציף איניש לשויי לאבוה שליח" - A person doesn't have the chutzpah [Modern Hebrew - "chutzpah"!!] to make his father a messenger. In the context of the Gemara it is talking about making one's father a messenger to betroth a woman on his behalf, but applies in principal to everything.
Your parents are not here to serve you!!! So if you need someone to pick something up from the cleaners or buy something in the supermarket - your parents are not the people to ask!!:-)
