A well known Rav [Shlita] who is in the "Medinah is totally treif" camp, recently said that the new government wants to totally uproot Torah, רח"ל. Until now, in order to get married or divorced, one had to do so religiously. The new government wants to make civil marriage and divorce legal. Until now, in most places there was no public transportation on Shabbos. The new government wants to abolish this. Until now, it was not illegal to try to be mekarev children. The new government wants to put people in jail for trying to be mekarev children under 18. He listed more changes they want to make.
I was STRUCK!! What he was saying was that until now there were POSITIVE things abt. the government. Religious marriage and divorce for all - like it or not. No public transportation on Shabbos. Freedom to do kiruv on anybody etc. So how come UNTIL NOW he never had a kind word to say?? It is always bad, bad, bad, bad. But now he is saying that until now, in certain areas it was great. So why do we only hear about it when he has something negative to say??
So in my humble opinion: We are BLESSED to live in Israel. However bad the government is for Torah - it was much worse in the last 1000 years we spent in Europe and Arab lands. Even the left wing secular Bennet-Lapid covenant is better than much of what we had to deal with until now. No Shuls, Yeshivos or Beis Yaakovs will be closed. The government will still be giving money to religious institutions. Anyone can practice religion as much as he wants. Nobody is stopping anyone from learning or davening or going to mikva [in the meantime, anyway]. There is free speech so anyone can say whatever he wants against the government with no fear of repercussions. That is a HUGE deal. There are so many brachos we have that we TOTALLY TAKE FOR GRANTED.
So I ask - let us not take anything for granted and be eternally thankful for all we enjoy in the Eretz Hakodesh in Gashmiyus and Ruchniyus!!!!!
What we be with this new government? I know one thing for sure: All the שונאי תורה in history are gone. The Torah and Am Yisrael are eternal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO NO WORRIES!!!!
