Some people think that the "real world" is the concrete physical world while the world of the spirit is an imaginary world. This small mindedness is intellectual poison! These people might keep mitzvos and claim to believe but deep inside they lack recognition that the opposite is true. Going from the concrete, secular world to the world of Torah and mitzvos is an escape from destruction and nothingness to true life.
בקטנות הדעת מונח ארס פנימי, שנדמה על ידו, שכל הנתקה מן החול אל הקודש היא דחיה מישות אל אפסיות. ואף על פי שההודאה החיצונה מנגדת לזה מצד קבלת האמונה, שמסעדת את כל כושל, גם הנשפל בקטנות, בכל זאת בעצמיותה של ההכרה חסר זה היסוד המאיר, המזהיר את נשמת האדם בתוכיותה, שעל ידו הנשמה טבועה כולה בהכרתה העליונה, שכל הנתקה מן החול אל הקודש היא בריחה מחורבן ואפסיות אל הישוב המילוי והישות הכבירה והאיתנה, אל חיי החיים בעוצם מקוריותם, והזרמת שפעתם ההומיה, מלאת המנוחה והעז.
Here is a proof. As I write, my body is slowly but surely decaying and dying. I think that I am alive but I am a walking, breathing, ticking time bomb that at any second can end. From about 26 years old the aging process begins culminating in a guaranteed death [I am 20 years into the process and according to statistics well past halftime in my life. EXCITING!:-)]. No escape. But the spirit never gets old and last for eternity.
You buy an apple. Eat is SOON!! It is also slowly rotting. See how ALL of our physical possessions get old and are ultimately rendered useless.
So our world is one that is going toward destruction and decay while the soul and spirit will NEVER age and will last forever. It all depends on the quality of our relationship with Hashem.
