Vivek was asked about his opinion on Israel. He said something very revealing. He said that America is Israel's friend b/c it is in America's best interests. And, [that didn't sound good, so] he added, this is to Israel's benefit b/c we will be better friends when we have a self interest than a friendship born of out of altruism.
This, pointed out Rav Amiel many decades ago, is where nationalism turns ugly. When nationalism is about strengthening your own nation in order to better mankind, then it is a positive ideology. But when it is a selfish "us first because we care only about ourselves and all of our friendships are in order to serve our own interests" then it is very bad, and frankly, dangerous.

The idea of Jewish nationalism and choseness is not selfish but a combination of being chosen to serve Hashem and to better mankind by being the guide to that ideal together with the bracha we bring to the world. Any selfish motivations are disqualified.
