My grandfather ע"ה was desperately trying to get out of Europe before the breakout of World War Two. He was finally able to procure a visa to South America but only on one of two conditions. Either he convert to Christianity or he pay $20,000. Today that would be approximately $428,136.17 [!!!!!]. Thank G-d, he had the money and paid it and eventually arrived in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Today he has dozens and dozens and dozens of descendants, many of whom are beautiful Bnei and Bnos Torah. Every day, his Neshama is going higher and higher due to the countless hours of Torah being learned, Tfillos being said, chesed being performed and so many other mitzvos by his descendants.
Thank you HASHEM for saving my family and thank you grandpa for appreciating the value of remaining Jewish. Worth more than $428,136.17 or all the money in the world.
