When the Rav Ha-Nazir was older he suffered from tremendous physical pain. A student came to visit him and he said that not only does the medicine not help but it actually makes things worse. He said he calls his pains "gehenom" and the only cure for gehenom is "gan eden". Gan Eden is holy songs and the words are מַה תִּשְׁתּוֹחֲחִי נַפְשִׁי וּמַה תֶּהֱמִי עָלָי הוֹחִילִי לֵא-לֹהִים כִּי עוֹד אוֹדֶנּוּ יְשׁוּעֹת פָּנַי וֵאלֹהָי - "Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God" and suddenly he started to sing the words to a tune that he himself had composed.
