The Rubashkin Story

I am confused.

Why is he being treated like the Gadol Hador??

Anybody who learns Torah deserves [according to Halacha] more Kavod.

And every balabos who is honest in business deserves more Kavod.

There was a mitzva of Pidyon Shvuyim and he deserved sympathy - but the Gadol Ha-dor??

There was injustice? OK - But that doesn't make him a Gadol.

As for his Bitachon - very wonderful but there are PLENTY of people in Klal Yisrael who undergo tremendous travails and difficulties who display no less Bitachon.

I just think that a lot of this didn't bring to a Kiddush Hashem.

But it does add to this [negative to my mind] Jewish trait of often thinking that we are oppressed no matter what - even when we are guilty. [I like to say that the reason I didn't play pro ball is because of anti semitism. And also a little bit because I wasn't nearly good enough to even play division 3 college ball in any sport].

The Goyim are indeed out to get us sometimes - and sometimes we just don't behave ourselves and should should hold ourselves accountable.

Note: I don't know what Rubashkin did or didn't do. This is less about him and more about us.
