Interesting.
After the Holocaust, the world felt badly for us. So they voted for our right to have a small tiny State in the Middle East. Then we were attacked by Arab mobs. We defended ourselves and most of the world turned against us. It has been this way [with notable exceptions such as the US under various governments] for the last 75 years.
On Simchas Torah there was a terrible, vicious, horrific pogrom with over 1,200 Jews brutally murdered and about 250 taken hostage. If we would not have responded with a counter attack [against people wild beasts who promise many more of the same to come לא תקפ"ץ] the world would have been on our side. Poor Jews. A minor one day Holocaust. But the Israeli army responded very very forcefully [and not nearly forcefully enough in the minds of many. Like - warning everyone to leave before attacking - time after time]. Now the world is mostly either against us or neutral.
So the lesson is - we like you when you are victims. But DON'T DARE defend yourselves.
