Herzog Goes On The Defense

Speaking Friday at the Zarzir strike site, President Isaac Herzog addressed recent remarks from U.S. President Trump regarding a potential pardon for former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Herzog drew a sharp line between political discourse and the integrity of national institutions.

“Political matters may be debated for years, but attacks on the symbols of government demand a response,” Herzog stated. Invoking Jewish tradition, he added, “There is a saying in our sources: ‘A king who waives his honor, his honor is not waived.’ While I am not a king, I am the President of Israel—a sovereign and independent state. There is a fundamental difference between legal debates with allies and blatant attacks on the symbols of our sovereignty.”

Herzog concluded by insisting that any pardon decision would be made in a vacuum, free from external pressure: “Our independence is not for sale. I will handle the pardon request, should it arrive, in an independent and impartial manner, with a clear conscience and clean hands.”

The "Banana Republic" Paradox

We find ourselves in a "Banana Republic" scenario where a President—holding a position that is largely unnecessary and carries no real executive authority—holds the power to decide the fate of a Prime Minister. This President was not democratically elected by the people [but receives a generous salary from their tax money], yet he oversees the legal standing of a leader who should be focusing 100% on the security of the Jewish people (with, of course, a 100% assist from Hashem).

Instead, the PM is hamstrung by legal battles, and the President refuses to act based on the spurious claim that he is completely objective. This is a fundamental falsehood: Nobody is completely objective. We are all humans riddled with biases, and pretending otherwise only serves to delay justice and compromise national security. This is not an "attack on our sovereignty" but a common sense insistence by Trump [who is no stranger to defending himself against people whose life dream is to see him in jail] to let Bibi do his job.

Note: I am not here to say that Trump or Bibi are big Tzadikim. Far from it.

Just that מדינת ישראל is not the final station.

WE WANT MOSHIACH NOW!!!
