Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a greeting to the country's Muslim community on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which begins at sunset.
"Tonight, Muslims in Canada and around the world will celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan," the Prime Minister said.
Carney described the Islamic traditions observed during Eid al-Fitr to the Canadian public: "During the coming days, Muslims will gather with family and friends to celebrate, give gifts to one another, say prayers, and reflect on the lessons of Ramadan.
He added and noted that "before the holy celebration begins, Muslims will give Zakat al-Fitr, which is an act of charity reflecting the generosity at the heart of Islam."
According to him, Eid al-Fitr "sheds light on the importance of community, unity, and faith, and this reminds us of the values inherent in the great contribution of Muslims in Canada to making the country stronger and more resilient."
He concluded the message to the Muslim community with a greeting in Arabic: "Eid Mubarak."
